My impulse to paint is triggered by non-representational images that flash through my intuition. I feel compelled to paint them precisely because they are fleeting (huanghu). What exactly is ‘fleeting’? I’m not entirely sure, and Lao Tzu may have realised the answer long ago. As he defined it, “The Semblance of the Invisible […] is called the Fleeting and Indeterminable.” He returned the fleeting and indeterminable to itself.

引發我作畫衝動的是直覺上恍恍惚惚的一片不具象影像,唯其是恍惚,所以才有畫的必要。若問那恍惚是什麼?我自己也不知道,或許老子在思維上早已感覺到了吧!他為恍惚下了一個定義說:『無物之象,是謂惚恍。』讓恍惚歸於恍惚。
