I ndonesian Family Portrait Series #2 documents multiple compositions of families found in villages across Indonesia. Akiq A.W. is particularly interested in portraying the daily livelihoods of subjects. He explores family-related themes and concepts, heavily influenced by the State during the New Order era from 1966-1998. The campaign aimed at family planning and population control and imposed intervention on women’s bodies and gender roles in society, ultimately taming the smallest political entities. The portraits question the construction of ideal families established by the State and prompt the discussion of how propaganda works as a medium to control the public and create a homogenized environment under the rule of the State.

Born in 1976, artist and curator Akiq Abdul Wahid was raised in Kediri, East Java. With a keen interest in capturing the mundane life of humans amongst the continuously evolving and innovating technological world, Akiq’s works are largely produced through photographic media. The artist's works have been displayed in many group exhibitions in Asia, including “Unfolded City” 8th Jogja Biennale at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta in 2005 and “Young Artist Project 2011: Future Lab” at Daegu Metropolitan City Korea in 2011. The artist has also held various solo exhibitions including “The Order of Things” at Room MES 56, Yogyakarta in 2010, “One Man Different God”, at the Art Dept- Good Department, Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta in 2011, and “To the Landscape and Beyond” at Emmitan Ca Gallery, Surabaya in 2012.

身兼藝術家及策展人兩職的Akiq Abdul Wahid出生於1976年並於東爪哇的諫義里長大。Akiq熱愛捕捉人類在日新月異的科技世界中沈悶的生活，而他的創作大多為攝影作品。他的作品曾於2005年的日惹文化發展中心舉行的第８屆日惹雙年展「Unfolded City」、2011年南韓大邱廣域市的「年輕藝術家企劃2011：未來實驗室」（Young Artist Project 2011: Future Lab）等多個亞洲群展中展出。他亦曾舉辦多場個展，包括2010年於日惹的56號房間畫廊（Room MES 56）舉辦的「物件的次序」（The Order of Things）、2011年雅加達印尼廣場時尚概念店（The Goods Department）藝術部的「一人多神」（One Man Different God）以及2012年泗水發射器畫廊（Emmitan Ca Gallery）的「超越風景畫」（To the Landscape and Beyond）。
