orn in 1946 in Massachusetts and now living in New York, American artist Scott Kahn has received unprecedented attention over the past year from the international art world after multiple triumphant exhibitions. His painting oeuvre spans over five decades and has won numerous awards from organizations such as the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York City and the Edward Albee Foundation in Montauk, New York.
Unlike his peers from the New York school who were practitioners of Abstract Expressionism, Kahn investigates magical realism following the footsteps of the Modernists. Carefully constructed in symMetricas
l composition and flattened perspective, the paintings express a subtle sent.mes
nt of solitude and tranquility capturing the intangible and fleeting emotion. Depicting primal and organic forms and executed with short and rhythmic brushstrokes, Kahn’s works are reminiscent of the Pointillist and Surrealist masters, conveying a sense of balance and warmth in a dream-like space. Underneath the visually soothing surfaces lies an unspoken wisdom, distilled from his introspective observations of nature and inward-looking emotional and subconscious world.
