“Our One of One selections are always from some of the finest casks we have stored at Glen Moray and this one is no different. Finishing in a cask which has previously held an Islay Peated Single Malt, allows the Glen Moray to pick up hints of smoke which sit wonderfully with the traditional Speyside style that Glen Moray typically imbues. This is an enigmatic and thoroughly enticing One of One selection.”
This 30yr old Glen Moray that has been finished in a cask that previously has held Islay peated whisky, creating a wonderful combination of two of Scotland’s most famous whisky regions. The unique liquid was bottled at 54.1% abv in a Glencairn crystal decanter.
The winning bidder will also be invited to enjoy a dinner in Elgin with an overnight stay, alongside a tasting with Head of Whisky Creation, Stephen Woodcock. The experience will also include sample bottles for the winning bidder to enjoy or share with friends.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Luxuriously rich vintage oak spice notes are overlaid with a subtle hint of campfire smoke. Underlying is a rich sweet, honeyed character which is undeniably Glen Moray in style but with a subtle twist. Sweet, caramelised bananas are lying comfortably with a very slight hint of iodine.
Taste: Initially a burst of earth and smoke combine with oak spice but they gently fade into vanilla, honey and green tea. The finish is long and lingering and continues to develop (late into the night) with stem ginger, pineapple all intertwined with the ethereal smoke that has been overlaid onto this wonderful expression of Glen Moray.
Glen Moray Distillery
Glen Moray Distillery has been producing its iconic Speyside spirit on the banks of the River Lossie in the historic town of Elgin since 1897. The distillery has been a part of the single malt landscape for many years but since 2008 it has been releasing wonderful examples of experimental casks, leaning into its long recorded history of being Cask Explorers.
