Finally, a western calligrapher!
Unlike Mathieu’s later works, which often feature central compositions, Chanson Dispersée, created in 1988, reflects the artist’s "Cosmic Movement" series from the 1980s. While still retaining the calligraphic quality of his earlier works, the painting adopts a vertically structured, dual-axis composition. Mathieu boldly challenges the multiplicity of lines by incorporating both rounded brushstrokes and sharp, elongated streaks of paint. He places greater emphasis on establishing a sense of spatial depth, where the clash of diverse colors is resolved through form and style, ultimately evoking the musicality embedded within the painting.

有別於馬修晚期常見的中心式構圖,創於於1988年的《絃歌》呼應了藝術家自80年代所開啟的「宇宙運動」,既保有前期的書寫性,以左右雙中軸的直立式構圖,大膽挑戰線條的多重性,在圓潤的筆法上用尖銳的條狀顏料塗抹,更加著重於建立空間的立體感,在多樣的色彩衝突中以形式和風格呼應了作品中的音樂性。
