“My chromatic proposals attempted to suggest other solutions to the process of ‘painting.’ They allowed me to express myself freely from a platform where decisions concerning issues of composition and form were unimportant compared to the power and effectiveness of the ‘;event’ that they provoked. The entire structure was designed to make color the leading actor: color appearing and disappearing in t.mes and space. I have tried to provide an alternative solution to the pleasure of seeing (a pleasure specifically associated with painting) without recourse to conventional painting. What is at stake is a different language in the fields of expressiveness and the enjoyment of color.”
