The earliest recorded basket of this pattern, 1 bearing the mark of Paul de Lamerie, London, 1743, is in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the gift of Mrs. Widener Dixon and George D. Widener, 1959. The design proved a popular one; a number of other examples from the mid 18^th century are known, including those bearing the marks of Phillips Garden, Edward Wakelin, Thomas Gilpin and William Cripps. The pattern was revived in the early 19^th century by Edward Farrell.
