Hsiao Chin had an awakening in the 1990s and found a life philosophy. He began exploring a free, infinite realm on larger canvases, which inspired his Il giardino eterno series. With abstract compositions and colour collisions, he presents the resplendent elevation of life. La serenità del giardino eterno (Lot 1049) is Hsiao Chin’s largest 1990s work from this series. According to the Hsiao Chin International Art Foundation, he painted two major works on custom 200 x 270 cm canvases: La serenità del giardino eterno and Flying beyond the great threshold (205 x 270 cm), and the latter is currently on view at Song Art Museum’s The Artist as Astrounaut: Hsiao Chin exhibition in Beijing . In 2018, La serenità del giardino eterno was a highlight of the China Art Museum’s “Hsiao Chin Coming Home: Retrospective Exhibition” and its catalogue. The colours are brilliant, shimmering like a mysterious message from the depths of the universe. The swirling lines imitate the movements of the universe, unpredictable yet following a concealed order. The flecks of colour evoke stars in a cluster, representing a surge of primal energy. The pure yet profound painted composition reveals to viewers a bright, clear space, and a brilliant manifestation of the wisdom of the universe in the depths of the artist’s soul. La serenità del giardino eterno, one of just two large works in this series, is now being offered at auction. This painting is sure to perform as brilliantly as its companion, because it too reflects Hsiao’s continued hopes for himself and his pure and lasting passion for art.

蕭勤是戰後華人之中唯一在西方以東方哲學發起前衛藝術運動的人物；九〇年代，蕭勤開啟經典的「永久的花園」系列，以抽象構圖和色彩衝撞呈現繽紛絢麗的生命之升騰，營造超限之境，此番新作與藝術家六〇年代「龐圖運動」時期主張的「宇宙靜觀」之精神一脈相承，同時進一步展現藝術家內心最柔軟的感性體悟。《寧靜的永久花園》（拍品編號 1049）長200公分、寛270公分，是此系列中最大尺幅作品之一，2018年在上海中華藝術宮〈蕭勤回家藝術大展〉中作為重點展品展出，並收錄於展覽圖冊中，畫面色彩絢藍，幻若宇宙最深處的神秘訊號；線條迴轉，模擬有序卻又不可捉摸的宇宙運行軌跡；彩點斑斕，猶如繁星點點，亦隱喻噴薄而出的原始能量，觀者可以從那越趨單純卻恢宏深邃的繪畫形構中，感受到藝術家心靈深處宇宙睿智的熠熠神。按藝術家基金會，與此作尺幅相同的巨作，唯有另一幅《飛越大限外》，現時正在北京松美術館的「宇宙人：蕭勤」展出，足見兩幅作品的博物館級價值。2020年香港蘇富比秋拍中亮相的《飛越永久的花園-19》（110 x 250公分，1998年作）備受藏家青睞，並以港幣1,512,000成交，《寧靜的永久花園》作為同系列最大尺幅作品，必將延續前畫之精彩表現，細述藝術家數十年如一日的赤子心。
