This view of the Pool of London from the east shows New London Bridge, which stood from 1831 until 1867, and replaced Old London Bridge (1209-1831). After its replacement by the modern London Bridge (opened 1973), New London Bridge was reconstructed, stone for stone, at Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and re-dedicated on 10 October 1971 in a ceremony attended by London’s Lord Mayor and celebrities.
In the shadow on the right is Old Billingsgate fish market, with the steeple of Wren's church of St Magnus the Martyr behind. Beyond the bridge can be seen the tower of Southwark Cathedral and the arches of Southwark Bridge. On the far left can be seen the tower of St Olave's Church (demolished 1926).
