A n emerging artist in the contemporary art scene, Chinese artist Huang Yuxing is adored for his mesmerising visual language characterised by a symphony of abstracted brushstrokes and hallucinogenic neon hues, transcending the boundaries of ordinary perception into a poetic kaleidoscope. In line with his overarching artistic repertoire, Pine Spirits At Twilight from 2019 unveils a landscape that emerges from the realms of imagination, abstraction and subjective interpretation.

Huang Yuxing's paintings foreground the natural landscapes, drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of Chinese traditional landscape art; in his artistic practice, Huang Yuxing deftly incorporates elements of the Chinese realist technique known as gongbi and infuses it with his own expressive twist with outlines reminiscent of the contour lines found on topographic maps. Through his bold and bright brushstrokes and a courageous departure from strict realism, he breathes new vitality into the subtle and restrained use of colour found in traditional ink paintings, forging his very own unique contemporary style that establishes a refreshing, innovative perspective of human connection to nature. For Huang,

“[n]eon represents the colour of our generation. Its vibrancy is something that no other colour spectra could ever rival: it carries with it a unique sense of import, like an outburst of living energy after a long period of repression."

Rendering the trees and terrain of Pine Spirits At Twilight in neon hues of yellow, green, blue and pink, Huang does not seek a naturalistic portrayal of the landscape; rather, he defamiliarizes the composition and transforms it into a hypnotic spatial field, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the invisible currents of radiant energy which pulsate within the depths of our natural environment.

Born in 1975 in Beijing, Huang graduated from the Department of Mural Painting at the Central Academy of Replica Handbags s in 2000. Following a period of artistic experimentation dominated by shades of black, Bubble synthesises Huang’s artistic shift. Inspired by Chinese Zen and Eastern philosophy, Huang fuses traditional Chinese realist techniques and Abstract Expressionist styles to produce his renowned composition which blur the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. Featuring recurring motifs of psychedelic curves and shapes in unrestrained shades of fluorescent colours Pine Spirits At Twilight meditates a space of deeper contemplations of existence.
