Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction on Tuesday night totalled £93.2 million ($122.8 million). Here, head of the sale, Emma Baker, explains how thirteen works by female artists were offered, the highest proportion offered in an evening sale. A highlight was Jenny Saville’s towering three-metre ‘Juncture’ from 1994, which achieved £5.7 million ($7.5 million), more than a 1000% increase on the £457,250 the painting achieved in its last appearance at auction in 2009. Auction records were set for Turner Prize-nominee Rebecca Warren and acclaimed Nigerian artist Toyin Ojih Odutola. Strong results were also achieved for works by Agnes Martin, Bridget Riley, Louise Bourgeois and Cindy Sherman.
