Rabanne x H&M Has Landed - Here's What to Shop, Prices, Home Collection and More

H&M is teaming up with Rabanne on their latest designer collaboration and I’m sharing everything you need to know, right here. The high street label is no stranger to sharing the spotlight. It first started collaborating with designers in November 2004 when it launched its iconic collection with the late Karl Lagerfeld. Since then, we’ve seen H&M collaborate with designers Simone Rocha, Versace, Stella McCartney, Balmain, Maison Margiela and most recently Mugler.

The Mugler x H&M collection came just a few months ago and was an instant sell-out, but the high street giant just dropped the news of the exciting new collab coming in November 2023. Rabanne x H&M was announced with a star-studded party in Paris, attended by stars including Cher, Irina Shayk, Jared Leto and Damson Idris, all of whom wore sparkly pieces from the collection and gave us a glimpse of what we can expect next month.

While little has been shared about the new collection, we know all the vital details. Ann-Sofie Johansson, head of design womenswear and creative advisor at H&M gave a a little hint in the official announcement.

“Rabanne’s metallic dresses are instantly-recognisable pieces of fashion history” she said. “We’re thrilled to bring a dazzling array of Rabanne designs to our customers with this sensational collaboration.”

We’re still waiting for the official lookbook, but the aforementioned metallic dresses were worn by Leonie Hahn and Elle Fanning at the Silencio nightclub in Paris, while Ashley Graham opted for a leopard-print bodycon dress and Robyn wore a crisp trouser suit. As party season approaches, it’s coming at the perfect time.

Julien Dossena, creative director of Rabanne, added: “As a designer, I’ve always been interested in exploring hedonism and empowerment. I was very enthusiastic to work with H&M on a collection that will introduce Rabanne’s avant-garde energy to a wider audience in a democratic way.”

Paco Rabanne’s brand history

Francisco “Paco” Rabaneda Cuervo – most commonly known as Paco Rabanne – is a Spanish fashion designer, who founded the namesake brand in 1966. He and his mother fled Spain when the Spanish Civil War broke out, heading to France where his mother worked as the Chief Seamstress at Balenciaga.

After studying architecture at the Beaux Arts in Paris, Rabanne started creating jewellery for Givenchy, Dior, and Balenciaga, before launching his own brand and gaining a name as an enfant terrible of the fashion world. His space age designs gained notoriety and he became a popular costume designer for cinema, with his iconic green dress worn by Jane Fonda in Barbarella becoming one of his best-known looks. Drawing on inspiration from his background in architecture, Rabanne’s designs often featured plastic tiles held together with chains, which he soon became known for. This can be seen in the upcoming collaboration with H&M too.

In 1968, he collaborated with fragrance giant Puig and launched his first perfume Calandre, before building a perfume factory in Chartres, France in 1976. Over the years, he launched XS, 1 Million and Lady Million and remains one of the most popular fragrance brands in the world today.

Rabanne hired Julien Dossena as creative director of womenswear at the brand in 2013, a role he maintains today. Rabanne passed away in February 2023 at the age of 88.

What is the Rabanne x H&M release date?

The collection is available to buy from today – November 9th, 2023. Black Friday is coming up too, so think carefully about what you want to spend your money on. H&M always takes part in the annual sale event, as well as brands like Zara, ASOS, COS and Mango.

What time will Rabanne x H&M be available to buy?

The collection launched online at 10am, but if you’re trying to login after this time, it might be because you’re still in the queue. Keep waiting and you’ll eventually get in, although some pieces may have sold out.

How much does Rabanne x H&M cost?

Prepare to shell out £549.99 for the metal mesh midi dress, £119.99 for an embellished cardigan and £169.99 for the sequin handbag.

H&M’s designer collabs are always more expensive than the brand’s regular collections, but they’re also a lot more affordable than if you were buying an item from the designer brand itself. In the days and weeks following the launch, expect to see pieces on reselling sites like eBay and Depop for much higher than they originally sold for – but the following year when the hype has died down, they’ll be selling for a lot less.

Is there a restriction on what I can buy?

Yes. So that as many shoppers as possible get the chance to buy pieces from the collection, H&M has put a restriction of one item per customer. Sadly if you’re in-between sizes, you’ll have to pick one.

Where can I buy Rabanne x H&M?

The collection is available to shop from hm.com and selected stores. If you’re based in London, you’ll be glad to know this includes both Regent Street stores and Westfield Shepherd’s Bush store. Here’s which stores will stock Rabanne x H&M. There’s a colour-coded queue system for those buying in person.

If you don’t manage to buy anything, the pieces will inevitably be listed on reselling sites before you know it, but usually at a much higher price point. H&M collabs are known for being resold in the days following the release at up to four times the original price, so it’s best to avoid this if you can.

That said, I sold my Simone Rocha x H&M dress for half the original price around a year after I bought it so if you’re patient, you won’t have to spend a huge amount.

Can I return Rabanne x H&M pieces?

Yes, but if you bought in-store you only have three days to return any items bought from the Rabanne x H&M collection. If you bought online, it seems you’ll have the full return period to send them back as this isn’t specified on the dedicated advice page. H&M accepts online returns for 7 days.

H&M also advises that Home designer collections bought online can only be returned online and that if possible, you should return your purchase from the same store as it was bought. Don’t forget your receipt!
