Why should you use cuticle oil?
According to Margate-based nail technician Elizabeth Jane, using cuticle oil helps to maintain your nails and keeps them hydrated. This means your expensive gel nails will last longer, so you get more bang for your buck too.
Elizabeth says: โCuticle oil can protect the nail and cuticle from trauma, helping to improve the health and appearance of your nails.
โIt prolongs gel manicures, but itโs just as important to use on polish-free nails too. I always encourage clients to keep using it even when taking a break from having gels or builder gel on their nails to help strengthen the nails and increase shine.โ

How often should you use cuticle oil?
Elizabeth says you should use your cuticle oil โtwice a day, minimum, but ideally anytime after you wash your hands.โ
I keep mine by my bathroom sink, so I remember to use it after I brush my teeth morning and night.
Does cuticle oil make nails stronger?
Yes. Using cuticle oil stimulates nail growth and protects them, helping to build stronger nails.
Should you apply cuticle oil before or after nail polish?
Cuticle oil should be applied after nail polish, or on polish-free nails.
How to look after your nails
Elizabeth offers some extra pearls of wisdom, advising to avoid having your hands in water for a prolonged period of time.
Obviously you canโt avoid having a bath or shower, but you can wear gloves to do the washing up.
She also advises avoiding picking your gel nails, as this can damage your natural nails.
