11 Simple and Chic Black Coats That Will Go With Literally Anything
For long-lasting appeal.
I’ve been having so much fun this year discovering this year’s trends, including colourful fashion, quilted coats and chunky boots but I gotta say, nothing beats simple and chic black.
Often we’re swayed by exciting new trends and vibrant pieces, but if you’re looking for outerwear that will stand the test of time, you truly can’t go wrong with a classic black coat.

Unlike many colours, you won’t have trouble pairing black coats with things you already have. They’re versatile and go with literally anything, from dresses, to classic jeans and shirt combinations.
While I still enjoy colour, black coats just have a lasting appeal that can go beyond trends and seasons. When you find one with a great silhouette or that has killer tailoring, you’re going to want to wear it as often, and for as long as you can.
The best thing about these is that they don’t have to be elaborate — truly, the simplest of styles can stand out. Whether it’s a quilted jacket, a tailored overcoat or a leather jacket, they have lasting appeal.
And believe it or not, even though they’re simple, they’re actually not boring. The ones available right now, in particular, are cool and eye-catching even without vibrancy.
Zara always has our back, no matter the season. As far as black coats go, they have plenty but the oversized wool coat is what caught my fancy. It’s as classic as classic goes, while the double-breasted buttons also add a nice touch.
If you want something that’s still classic but has more of a loungewear vibe, there’s one from Ganni that looks like an elevated robe — in the best way possible. The cherry on top? It’s made with boucle recycled blend.
Want to be on-trend but still keep it classic? You can definitely do that with the Other Stories quilted banana sleeve coat. Quilted jackets are everything this season. Get one in black, et voila! That’s your go-to outerwear piece for autumn and winter.
For a bit of style inspiration, you can look at Angelina Jolie who was recently spotted wearing a divine black wrap coat, which she paired with sheer black tights. Nobody does sleek and sultry quite like Angie!
If you want something that’s a bit on the edgier side, you can perhaps look at Vanessa Hudgens’s all-black ensemble — leather dress and black coat — for inspo. The sleek high ponytail rounds up the look quite nicely. She was also spotted wearing a printed white co-ord paired with a black coat. It’s great if you want a bit of colour but still can’t let go of your fondness of black.
