Damson Madder’s sizing can be confusing – to say the least. I’ve racked up quite the collection of DM pieces, so I think it’s fair to say that I know a thing or two about what sizes to pick and I’ll be honest, it ain’t easy. If you think you knew what size to order from their beautiful new SS25 collection, think again: the brand recently changed their sizing again *sigh*. But don’t panic: like I say, I know a thing or two about Damson Madder, so let me help you!

I’ve been shopping from Damson Madder for years. During the pandemic, I bought the coveted checkerboard co-ord and I still wear it to this day! As a content creator (you can follow me on Instagram or TikTok if you fancy!), I’ve worked with the brand a couple of times and now have a dreamy collection of DM pieces that I wear constantly. Until recently, I also worked in a cute shop in Margate that stocks them too called Margaux (well worth a visit if you’re in the area), and I saw plenty of customers trying on.

So hopefully by now you believe me that I’m a DM sizing expert – but what’s the crack? Is DM true to size? Well, sadly it can be confusing. Let me break it down for ya.

Damson Madder sizing review

Tees: oversized

As with all sizing, how Damson Madder’s pieces fit will depend on your figure and shape, but I can give you a rough idea of what works for me and their sizing in general. Firstly, it’s worth noting that DM’s pieces are designed to be oversized – ESPECIALLY their T-shirts. Their tees tend to be huge unless otherwise stated. A baby tee, not so much – but their boyfriend tees are seriously roomy. In many cases you can probably afford to go down a size if yours isn’t available or if you just prefer a tighter fit. You don’t need to though; they’re designed to look big, so get your regular size for a comfy look.

Coats: true to size

The same can be said for their coats: get your regular size. After posting their Sadie coat on Instagram, I had a lot of questions about the fit. I’m a size 10, and I got a size 10 in this coat. The fit was oversized, which allowed me to wear chunky knits underneath. From what I can tell, the same can be said for the rest of their outerwear; it runs pretty big and isn’t meant to be tight on the body.

Jackets: oversized

Again, jackets depend on the fit but if I had to say, I’d say they’re oversized. I have a few: the reversible Macy jacket (HEAVEN), the leopard print padded jacket, the Nova oversized jacket and the Hera jacket. The clue is in the name really, but I like the style they’re going for, so I got them all in a size 10 as I like a roomy fit. If you’re petite, you may need to get a size below so they don’t look TOO big.

Dresses: true to size

I now have many dresses from Damson Madder, and I recommend getting your regular size. I am really flat chested and much smaller up top, so I got a bit overexcited and recently ordered the Kelia midi in a size 8 and I can barely do it up. From now on, I’m sticking with my regular size.

Jeans: run small

DM jeans run really, really small. I have about six pairs (not even kidding), and I had to return them all to size up. I could do them up in my regular size 10, but were they comfy? Certainly not. I prefer the looser fit anyway, so if you’re anything like me, with a big bum and hips, go up a size.

Is Damson Madder petite-friendly?

Full disclosure: I’m 5″7, so looking for petite-friendly options isn’t really something I’ve had to contend with – but what I will tell you is that DM’s mini dresses are MINI. If you’re under 5″4, opt for shorter skirts, shorts and make sure you size down in everything that looks roomy. It’s not the most petite-friendly brand in the world, but you can make it work!

What’s the quality like?

I’ve heard mixed reviews about DMs quality, but I can only speak from my own personal experience, which has been really positive! Every item I’ve bought has been gorgeous and really good quality. Some of the threads on my coat are coming loose, but due to the quilted detailing that’s pretty intricate. This is to be expected I think, so it doesn’t bother me!
