Is Animal Print in Style in 2024?

Zebra, leopard, tiger and more.

Love it or hate it, animal print is one of those long lasting trends that never strays far. Will it stick in 2024? Trends come and go, but there are a rare few that don’t ever seem to leave the forefront of fashion. Trench coats are timeless, jeans aren’t going anywhere and trainers are quite simply a wardrobe staple. The same logic applies to prints too, like gingham and tartan. There are just some things that people love, whether it’s 1983 or 2024.

It’s important to remember that if something isn’t trending, it doesn’t really matter either. Each individual’s style is different, and that’s something to be celebrated. At Cheap Luxury Handbags , we encourage you to wear what feels comfortable and makes you feel confident, but for those seeking advice, we’re taking a look at whether the fierce print is still in style this year.

But before we answer that, let’s backtrack a bit. How did this fashion trend become so popular in the first place? Below, I’m answering all your burning questions about animal print. Next, read about AW23-24’s biggest trends, and discover the biggest shoe trends and bag trends for the year ahead.

The lowdown on the trend

Did you know that the animal print has been in vogue since the 1930s and it’s all thanks to Tarzan? Prior to the release of the movie Tarzan the Apeman, prints that bore a likeness to the fur of animals or patterns were worn as a sign of power. After seeing the character Jane onscreen, people decided it was just fun and exciting to dress up that way — power or no power.

In the 60s and 70s, animal print was seen as a symbol of rebellion, which was perfect for the political landscape at the time. Then in the 1980s, the trend had a complete renaissance. Along with big hair and neon spandex, it was one of the biggest trends of the decade and was worn by stars like Debbie Harry and Joan Collins. Fashion was fun, and animal print was seen as fierce and bold.

During the 90s, animal prints took a bit of a breather – but in the noughties, they were back with a vengeance. Stars like Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow and Paris Hilton were rarely pictured in anything else, and leopard print was seen as luxurious rather than tacky.

We’ve had a bit of a wild few years, so as fashion is a political statement, it makes so much sense that we’re seeing animal print returning to the runway.

Is animal print in style in 2024?

If the runways for SS24 are any indication of what’s to come, we say the animal print is here to stay in 2024 (and beyond). The trend was spotted on the runways at Dior, Celine and Ganni, serving as a pretty huge hint of what we’ll be wearing this year.

At Ganni’s SS24 show, leopard print was worn alongside tiger print in a more is more approach to the trend. Meanwhile at Celine, it was a little more subtle in the form of a flowing chiffon leopard print dress. Dolce Gabbana is pretty much synonymous with leopard print and for SS24, it appeared in the form of a shiny leopard print trench coat.

But it’s not just the runways that are embracing animal print; celebrities have been backing it too. In March 2023, Zendaya wore a killer tiger-print set from Louis Vuitton. Millie Bobbie Brown was pictured in a noughties-inspired leopard print slip dress in June and Jennifer Lopez went the whole hog (or, erm, leopard) in May with a leopard-print dress with ostrich-feather trims and matching animal print shoes.
